California State University, Stanislaus is celebrating 50 years of higher education excellence through 2010. A number of special events and programs will be held over the next two years to mark this half-century milestone.
Budget Central has been created to provide the latest news about the CSU Stanislaus budget in light of the state’s severe cuts to the California State University system. The University has been required to make $13.5 million in cuts to its 2009-10 budget, including a $2.5 million reduction of part-time faculty and staff, and has reduced full-time equivalent enrolment to 6,800. For a night, bow ties replaced books, gowns replaced grades, a lieutenant became a doctor, and California State University, Stanislaus took a giant leap forward.
The 50th Anniversary Inaugural Gala on Oct. 25 helped raise $225,000 that is already benefiting University programs.
The event featured a sold-out dinner and a concert performance from actor, director, and musician Gary Sinise and his “Lieutenant Dan Band” at the University Amphitheater.
Prior to the Gala, Sinise was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts degree by California State University Board of Trustees Chair Jeffrey L. Bleich and CSU Stanislaus President Dr. Ham Shirvani. Honored for his multiple accomplishments in the film and television industries, Sinise is best known for his performance as “Lieutenant Dan” in the Academy Award-winning film “Forest Gump.”
CSU Stanislaus is planning a series of special events heading into the 50th anniversary of the startup of the University at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in 1960. In addition to a second Gala that will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010, the University is also planning for a number of other events in fall 2010 to celebrate its 50th year.
What is college without memories? Many CSU Stanislaus students talk about their classes on the weekends, then turn around to talk about their weekends in class — and it doesn’t end there. Upon graduation, Warrior alumni share stories of their days in the quad or their nights at Mom’s with friends, family, co-workers, and fellow alums.
We’re thankful for our cell phones and our beautiful campus. But when CSU Stanislaus was in its infancy, its phone number consisted of both letters and numbers, and the campus community was asked to watch out for animals and landscaping equipment while parking.
