History continues to be made at CSU Stanislaus with the startup of the inaugural Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership degree program.
The program opened in September 2008 with a full cohort of 29 students, a second cohort started classes in June 2009, and a third cohort is scheduled to start up in Stockton in June 2010. Specializations are in leadership for preschool to grade 12 schools and community college leadership. It is the only program in the CSU system focused on instructional leadership. Doctoral courses taught by expert faculty are held on Tuesday evenings. Doctorate program faculty have been impressed with the diversity of those enrolled in the program that includes administrators and teachers from the K-12 and community college ranks. One of them is Kay Vang, an assistant principal at Apricot Valley Elementary School in Patterson who was born to refugee parents from Laos in a Thailand refugee camp. She earned her Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from CSU Stanislaus in 2006. For more information on the University's Ed.D. program, click here. |

It is the first doctoral program offered at the University, with CSU campuses having been given the authority in 2007 to institute the highest degree. Dr. Jim Riggs, former President of Columbia College, is Interim Director of the program which is designed to meet the need for highly trained educational leaders in the Central Valley.
