Why Stockton?

In the mid-1970s, Stockton was identified as a tri-college satellite for CSU East Bay, Stanislaus, and Sacramento. It was an early effort in distance learning to serve geographical areas where travel to a main CSU campus was logistically difficult. Other CSU campuses have satellites (Palm Desert is a satellite for CSU San Bernardino); other CSUs (Channel Islands and San Marcos, for instance,) began as satellites of CSU Northridge and San Diego, respectively.

Steve Elliott authors fix-it book “The Portable Dad” PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 July 2009 19:18

Steve Elliott, ’92 BA Developing Nation Studies/Journalism, has authored a recently published book for people living on their own for the first time who need to know how to use, maintain, and fix the things they own.

Targeted for 18-to-25-year-olds who can’t turn to dad anymore to fix things, “The Portable Dad, Fix it Advice for When Dad’s Not Around” is especially designed for students headed to college or people who need access to some simple “fix it” basics. His book has been listed in the Reader’s Digest “Funniest Book Titles” Top 20.

A professional writer for more than 25 years and former advisor to the CSU Stanislaus student newspaper, The Signal, Elliott has been a handyman and fix-it guy most of his life. Steve and his wife, Diane Nelson, are co-owners of Elliott & Nelson, a copywriting and public relations firm based out of their home in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Elliott said fix-it challenges with his two daughters prompted him to write the book.
